Surely topical deluge has something to do with it as well, but it's honestly impressive how much less Curren$y tracks with both the RYM contingent and hip-hop world at large in a post- Pilot Talk III world. I'd argue he also blocked a lot of his fanbase from hearing this album when the hype was at its pique, and while his super-fans were likely happy to feel special with their lootpack and USB card, I often wonder whether this release strategy indirectly led to the precipitous decline in interest in Curren$y over the past two years (even his Wikipedia career bio was last updated prior to this album's release). I consider streaming a complete last resort, and so I just kept waiting and waiting for someone to rip their USB to the internet and let me tag it up with producers, sample sources, proper grammar and all the rest - but no, Curren$y nearly defeated piracy with Pilot Talk III. As someone who still prefers to hoard their music in an iTunes library file dating nearly a decade old through both legal and illicit means, my most explicit memory of this album is just how damn hard it was to get a hit from.
